How to Dry your Petals
There are various methods of drying petals, you can use a microwave or air fryer but here i'll be explaining how to dry your petals out using an oven. Drying petals in the oven is a quick and effective way to create beautiful confetti.
What You’ll Need:
- Fresh petals from roses, peonies, hydrangeas, or any other flowers you love
- A large baking tray
- Parchment/ baking paper
- An oven
Instructions:
- Preheat Your Oven – Set your oven to a low temperature, around 80°C (175°F). This ensures the petals dry out without burning.
- Prepare the Petals – Gently pluck the petals from the flowers, discarding any that are bruised or damaged.
- Line the Baking Tray – Place a sheet of parchment paper on a baking tray to prevent the petals from sticking.
- Arrange the Petals – Spread the petals in a single layer on the tray, making sure they don’t overlap.
- Bake Slowly – Place the tray in the middle of the oven and bake for approximately 10-15 minutes, checking frequently. The petals should feel dry and crisp but still retain their colour.
- Cool & Store – Once dried, let the petals cool completely before transferring them to an airtight container.
Storing Your Petal Confetti
To ensure your petal confetti stays fresh and vibrant until your wedding day, follow these storage tips:
- Keep it Dry – Store the petals in an airtight container to prevent moisture from making them wilt.
- Avoid Direct Sunlight – Keep the container in a cool, dark place to preserve the colour.
- Use Silica Gel Packs – Placing a silica gel pack in the container helps absorb any excess moisture and keeps the petals crisp.
This is such an easy and fun wedding planning activity so as you receive flowers throughout the year, don’t throw them away! Try this out and create your own gorgeous and eco-conscious confetti for your wedding day!
